The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, depicts the punishment and going of sines. Hawthorn gives each one very different consequences and remedy for each sin. The characters in the book are: Hester Prynne, the woman taken into adultery, Arthur Dimmesdale, the young government minister of religion of religion she committed the sin with and Rodger Chillingworth, her husband. The story explains how Hester is publicly penalise refine away, Dimmesdale has to dwell on his sin for years and Chillingworth is penalize abruptly when his sin comes to an end.
