This signifies her need to take as lots hope and memories as she can, to help her survive those trying times. On the other hand, her attitude towards the plot has changed. She is no longer so caring, she hurries and grabs anything she can and destroys what is left, so the Germans would not find anything to make use of. That proves that she has lost control of her emotions and is panicking; she is no longer the calm and gathered person she was.
